Description:

♦ Zones:  4 - 8     Height:  36 - 48"     Exposure:  Full Sun ♦

'Jin-Dai' is a compact tartarian aster cultivar.  Distinctive paddle-shaped, almost tobacco-like basal leaves are up to 18" long and 5" wide, but higher up stem leaves are significantly smaller. Dense and abundant, flat-topped clusters of asters with purple rays and yellow centers appear in autumn on rigid stems.  This is a late bloomer which usually blooms well to first frost.  It is attractive to butterflies.  No serious insect or disease problems. This tall aster seldom needs summer pinching to control height or staking as long as it is grown in full sun.  It is easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun.  This is a large aster which may be best grown in border rears or in naturalized areas where it has room to expand.
